About Us

Honoring our Past

Mankind has used cannabis as potent medicine for centuries. It was introduced to Jamaica in the 1850s and was quickly placed at the center of our tradition and culture. This all changed as fear and discrimination lead to the prohibition of the plant.

Namafuta was born from a desire to reclaim Jamaica's sacred herbs – to unlock and share the healing properties of this enigmatic plant.

CBD (or Cannabidiol) is one of over 100 active compounds found in the cannabis plant, which interacts with the Endocannabinoid System when ingested. Cannabinoids like CBD, as well as terpenes and various other phytochemicals, can be extracted from the flowers of cannabis (both hemp and marijuana).

CBD works by interacting with the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system plays a crucial role in regulating our physiology, mood, and everyday experience. When we use products containing CBD, it binds with endocannabinoid receptors in our bodies (like keys to a lock). This can then help to regulate a range of biological functions, such as pain, appetite, memory and inflammation.

From a scientific standpoint, both hemp and marijuana are the same species — Cannabis sativa. The defining difference between hemp and marijuana is in the amount of psychoactive compound, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), each contains. Marijuana has high levels of THC, while hemp has 0.3% or less THC. This means hemp products are unlikely to make you “high”.

CBD is non-psychoactive. This means it does not produce a characteristic “high” like THC (the other main cannabinoid in the cannabis plant).

Full-spectrum CBD contains all beneficial compounds naturally found in the cannabis plant. This includes essential oils, terpenes, and other cannabinoids, such as cannabinol (CBN). Full-spectrum CBD products may also contain up to 0.3% of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

The entourage effect theorizes that different compounds in cannabis work together to create uniquely beneficial effects. By taking the cannabis compounds as whole, rather than alone, it produces greater benefits. Our full spectrum CBD products take advantage of this phenomena.
